crop to ff uwa question

so i have a 50d and a 10-24mm lens, i know when i switch to the 5d it wont work at the wide end, but my question is would it work if i zoom it in to 16 to 24 with out it vignetting?

My guess is that you will very likely experience vignetting and/or lousy image quality around the edges of the image. The reason is that the lens projects an image that is not intended to fill a 35mm film format frame.

well i just ask cause i could sell it and buy a new one, but then my gf couldnt use it on her 20d as a uwa, but if it would have worked zoomed in then the few times i use it i could have just zoomed, but its true what you say then i guess shell just have to suffer....

Trade it in for the Sigma 12-24. Best UWA I've ever had, and I've owned the Canon 10-22. You can't get any wider on the 5D.

I went FF from a 40D and used a Tokina 12-24 on the crop. The tokina would mount fine, and shoot with no issues, but it was a severe vignette until about 20mm. But even then, as state above, the corners we just awful, turning almost to mush on most images. I tinkered with it while I debated on a replacement for the FF, but never got anything worth keeping...

I ended up with the Canon 17-40, because that was close to the field of view the Tokina offered on the crop. I have seen some great images from the sigma 12-24, as well as read numerous reviews praising it, but fear it would be too wide for my liking.

I use the 10-22 and 11-16 on FF, and it works well enough for me.

But someone posted an interesting experiment where they used a 1.4x teleconverter on a crop UWA and it worked at 10mm on FF with the TC, giving it a 14mm FOV. It was quite an interesting experiment with surprisingly good results.

I use the Tokina 12-24... Just to see if it would work I tried it on my 5DII. Works fine to about 18 or 19mm wide. Little or no image quality loss. Just some wide angle distortion. My 20mm prime is better corrected for that. I don't have the Tokina 11-16... but I'd expect it vignette a bit since the 12-24 starts to beyond 18 or 19mm.

Look around at your options. You might keep the Tamron and try it... Or you might consider adding a prime... I like the Canon 20/2.8 a lot.

Siggy 12-24 is a full frame lens. In fact, it's about the widest of all FF lenses that's not a fisheye. It's also pricey, more than the Canon 10-22. And it's got some IQ issues. But, hey, it goes where no other lens does, so ya gotta expect some compromises in other ways.

I'm wondering exactly how Lloyd fits his 10-22 Canon EF-S onto a full frame camera. He must have modified the mount.

How do you like the Tamron 10-24? It's new since I bought my UWA for crop and I've never had a chance to compare it closely.

it's said to be a pretty easy modification...you just have to pull the baffle out
