Katodog, Awesome shots, but I think the "smoke" looks better with the black background. Nicer colours. JMHO

You've got to look through the images in my Smoke set on Flickr, there's enough black backgrounds and white backgrounds to make you wonder which is better. Some shots look great with a black background, some look great with white. The shots I posted were just three quick grabs, I didn't feel like going through and picking any "best" images.

I wasn't offended at all, don't apologize, not necessary. I was just saying that I didn't have a preference, which is why I have so many that are black and so many that are white. Other people have said black is better, or white is better, there's never been a definitive answer on that subject. I like a nice clean black background though, I think it works better for most of the smoke. But, when you see everyone else's smoke shots, they always do the white background, so I had to do some like that to please that type of person. The white background is made by inverting the image, it's always best to use a black background. But, for the techniques I use with gels to color the smoke, sometimes inverting to a white background makes the colors come out goofy, or come out a color that I don't like. With non-colored smoke I prefer a white background because the smoke looks like smoke, but for colored smoke I think I lean more towards black. In any regard, I just like to shoot it, it's fun.

What do you have going on there? I see a nifty fifty taped to the end of another lens and it's giving you some cool results.
This thread was a great idea.
