might be tacky to be talking about camera production considering the circumstances but,

"Canon says camera production has not been affected by the Japanese earthquake though press reports suggest that its factories were damaged in the disaster.
Hirotomo Fujimori, a Tokyo-based spokesman for Canon based in Tokyo, told news agency Bloomberg that the world's biggest camera manufacturer 'didn't suffer damage to plants that would halt output'...."

found via http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk …an_quake_news_306229.html (external link)

best wishes to all of those affected!

thank you that is what I was asking about, it is important enough for Mr Hirotomo Fujimori to make a statement. I don't think my question was insensitive on this forum.

I hope life loss is limited, the people of Japan are great!

On a side note I do hope the whaling fleet was destroyed!

wow, just saw the clips. my sister, her husband, and their son are in Okinawa Japan (stationed there USMC). they were near Tokyo when it hit.

heard from them this morning that they are ok, but only communications are email.

I'll keep the people of Japan in my prayers. The video was hard to watch.

waves are hitting us, not too intense, maybe 3-4 feet but they're going up high on the beaches. first 'wave' seems to be small. hopefully nothing too big comes after

Linking to another POTN thread here --> http://photography-on-the.net …eply&noquote=1&p=12000395

200~300 bodies have been washed up in/around Miyagi Prefecture where we have at least one POTN member.

I live way down south, and we felt nothing, but the earthquakes and tsunami have created a national disaster, unseen here EVER.

We have POTN members in/around Tokyo too.
If anybody can add news of members checking in to POTN, please get them to post up something.

Regards,
Simon

yeah, im in hawaii. it's pretty crazy. the ocean is receeding like 100 feet out, exposing tons of reef off the coast of diamond head. but the waves coming back in are tiny..

apparently it looks like hawaii might have dodged a bullet, it doesn't look like it's going to be a big damaging tidal wave here. thank you Jesus!

As you know Nikon has its main flagship factory and HQ in Sendai, Japan.

Hope and pray that people in inland are safe and well.
