Just curious, how many of you fund your photog with money from your photos ?

For me it is my side job... I fund it using my main job as Cobol programmer

Can your hobby funds itself ?

Well I am 19 and work at Home depot and still live with my parents so most of my money can go into my photography hobby minus various bills that have come recently such as car repairs and these crazy gas prices.

I have a decent job (database architect / engineer), a cheap car and a girlfriend that doesn't require a whole lot of maintenance in terms of clothing, shoes or jewellery ;)

Apart from that, I occasionally shoot some portraits or weddings that earn me some new equipment. Once you get to a certain point, you can keep the additional investments relatively small by selling what you're going to replace with.

I'm single and rent an apartment that only costs just under 1/4 my take home monthly pay, all utilities paid. I drive the same car I bought new back in 2000 for the moment, and probably until it dies. Then I'll just buy another new one probably, a sonata or camry. Prius if they weren't so overpriced. The smarter thing to do would be to buy old beaters for 500 bucks and drive them until they die with an AAA membership, however there's a fine line between smart financial sense and one's dignity on public and overall sense of style not to mention enjoying one's ride... those 2011 sonatas are really nice for the money with an excellent warranty... Work at 3M and make good enough money. And don't have expensive lenses either. Would rather buy stocks. Donate kidneys.

I find mugging little old ladies just after they have collected their pension to be quite lucrative.

I had to seriously cut back on my supply of hookers and blow, but the money I rake in from my bottom **** time on da corner helps out allot. My kids are also on load to Vietnam as Nike shoe workers. Rice is all they need anyways right?
