Hello guys and gals. I am not a very good photographer, but after reading this thread I decided to put together a little comparison sheet of flash/external combinations. I hope you find it helpful, though please pardon the ugly compression =D

Where can I buy me one of those "ceiling fan lights"? And does it come with a softbox?

Its just my bulbs--they have a nice light. My fan has three GE5M814C, which are 5000k. These are the 120v 14w models, and I don't know what their filament equivalents are...probably 75-100w. |

bananapie thanks for the effort - a question, did you use manual flash or ETTL?

Manual flash, the YN-560. I'm completely new at using it so if you have any pointers for me I'd love to listen. =)

You're right, I forgot to specify--but it was a 5 dollar shoot-through I got off Amazon.

To compare light quality, you will need to equalise light quantity first, otherwise our perceptions are wildly distorted ETTL, with adjustments after each shot will help you equalise the light quantity, so that comparisons about quality can be meaningful |

If comparing quality of light is the intent then forget about TTL.
Work in manual mode and make sure the exposure is the same. If you don't have a meter then it's kind of difficult because TTL won't give you the same results with different modifiers and it's not consistent enough to evaluate quality of light.
