I am thinking of getting a 16 GB card for my 5D2. I usually use Sandisk, but I came across cards are from Transcend which are quite cheaper. Has anyone here used CF card from Transcend? Would you recommend them? Upload/download rate is 40MB/s.

I have been using Transcend CF for years. I have had one 16GB card which my 40D (rest in pieces) didn't like, resulting in about 8 mangled RAW files out of a shoot of 500 images. Luckily I was shooting in RAW+Jpeg and the Jpegs were recoverable. Amazon replaced the card immediately.

Apart from that one incident, every Transcend card I have used has been great.

I've always used Sandisk before but after recomendations I bought a Transcend 16gb 400x for my 5D2 a few weeks ago. No problems with it, and will get another soon, or maybe even the 32gb as the prices are good. I bought the 400x as there wasn't much difference in price bewteen the 133x and 400x at the time.

I should probably mention that my first Transcend was a 133x and while the card was reliable and spacious, it was very slow. With the current crop of DSLRS, I'd suggest 400x as a minimum.

There is no way that card will do 40MegaBytes/second. It will do 40 megabits/second, but that only equals about 5 MB/s. http://www.mediaroad.com …/free_tools/unit_convert/ (external link)

133x means a MAXIMUM speed of 20MB/s. Transcend cards are known to be under performers when it comes to advertised speeds. They typically quote read speeds when their write speeds are much slower.

All cameras only care about write speeds, and your 5D Mk II would only get about 10 MB/s out of that card.

Here are some 5D Mk II tests using various cards http://www.robgalbraith.com …ti_page.asp?cid=6007-9784 (external link)

I have the 32GB 133x in my 5DMII and the 16GB 400X. Both work very well.

I stick with Sandisk and Lexar. Fast, no problems. You get what you pay for.

Have used them for a few years. Ar least 60k images over 4-5 cards. The only buggered up card I have ever had was a Sandisk. I still buy Sandisk but only if they are cheaper than the Transcend.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I've been using a 32GB in my 7D for video for about a year now. No problems or issues yet.

I've also used Transcend for years with no problems. I go with cards that bench well so look at bench tests for your specific camera body and don't buy performance that you don't need. I'm using SanDisk in my current dSLR cos that's all the body needs.
