who knows.... probably baseballed out I guess. Nice clean images there. You have some real interesting compositions here. Part of me wants to just say I don't like them... the other part can kinda see their uniqueness and go along with it. For example - the first shot... typically you would not have the subject looking off the edge of the shot. The standard rule is you have a moving object (car, runner, etc) or someone is looking off in a direction - normal composition is you create more negative space in the direction the object is heading or looking off into - kind leading the object - like your last shot. The first one - if you had a purist look at it... would thrash it for that very reason - all the negative space is to the players back..... but you do have a relevent subject back there - the score board. The second one has all the elements there - the player just making it... the ball not having arrived yet, but the problem is the players face is so obscured... again a lot of good...but its just not pulling together as good as it could. 3rd shot - again... you broke a rule... cut off their heads... but the real subject is both tagging the base... so you almost can get away with it. Anyway - you got the idea.

You are absolutely on the right track, and you came up with some good creative shots. Keep at it and post some more games when you can even if no one else will chime in here.

I think you need to be a bit more creative with your framing/crops. For example in #1, crop just above the scoreboard and on the edge of the grass at his feet. #'s 2 and 3 without heads violate cardinal rule of sports images -- they'd be much more interesting if you hadn't chopped their heads off. #5 would look better without the white sign on the fence in it so crop it just below that sign -- and cut the outfielder in half. #'s 6 and 4 are your best shots in that order.

i like them maybe its just because im from england and dont appreciate baseball... but i like your compositions, slightly unusual.

For highschool shots... these are just great. I keep forgetting your shooting highschool ball and you make these guys look really good.

Really improved from the last ones... but just a little late on the action... just have to get used to shooting the sport.

Which lens are you using for these shots and what settings. My son is getting ready to start high school baseball and I want to get some really good shots. I have a Canon 20D with 70-200 Canon IS lens and a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. I would greatly appreciate any help on which to use and what settings. Thanks

tas, Im using the same setup as you but with the Sigma lens. I also use a 2x teleconverter during daytime games and shoot wide open. Always shoot at your lowest f/number. AV mode works good for me when I'm shooting bright daytime games.

Thanks Crash. Another question - do you use automatic focus or manual. Not sure how many I will get to take now. My son cracked his elbow tonight in practice and may be out 6 weeks. I love shooting sports and getting that ball right on the bat. I did that a few times last year with my film Rebel. I wanted to be able to do that with the digital also. I appreciate your help.

u got some shweet shots man.. i liek the one with teh player and the score board.. what was the gear u were shooting with.. im thiking of doing a sotball game this week at skool any advice for shooting this sport.
