Taken at a high school meet yesterday. The kids always love these shots.

Very nice.

Magnificent!

I just started shooting a friend's Rugby team. I chopped so many feet off, the team started calling me "the Butcher". You have a great action shot but loads of empty space above and the feet chopped off. I found that I was doing the same thing because I was using a centrally positioned single AF point and kept positioning it over the players face. With their face positioned centrally in the frame I had too much space above their heads and chopped off feet. I altered the settings to use a single AF point but positioned off centre - more towards the top of the frame.

Also find the setting that floats the focus point between horizontal and vertical orientation. I ignored it for way too long, but once you get used to it, it's a life-saver.

Constantly changing focus point isn't easy when you have to go from protrait to landscape and back again changing your point up down left and right. When it's the heavy weights it's pretty easy they don't move very much and once they go to the ground they stay there. I do chop of feet but oh well, I get what you get. Here's the shot a split second before

You should enable the af point registration feature. That way when you switch from portrait to landscape you don't have to change your af points.

Can I ask what lens you used to take them? Thanks.

100-400L. These are 50% crops at full res (posted on the site).
