Default Christmas Comet Lovejoy! (NEW PHOTOS ADDED)

Hi everyone,

I was lucky enough to see Comet Lovejoy this morning (Christmas Eve morning). Shot near Gerringong, NSW (not far from home):

And if that was not enough, the International Space Station decided to fly by, only moments later

More photos here: http://rudiphoto.net/christmas-comet

A Youtube time lapse of Christmas Comet Lovejoy here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP_8GIc8oj4 (the video is a collaborative effort between myself and David Finlay).

Comments welcome.

Thank you all, and Merry Christmas!

P.S. I have received some reports claiming that it's not the ISS, but Santa and his reindeer getting up to speed!

Excellent shot Rudi. We must have caught the ISS (Santa) on the next orbit as I'd just packed up when it came over.

Very nice Rudi, when you see the Comet with your naked eye how did the tail appear?
Could you see it visually or was it to faint and only long exposure will pull it out?

I think it was the same orbit, Steve, it's just that you are further East of us, and by the time the ISS crossed over, it was getting too bright where you were (so you were packing up).

Easy naked eye object. It looked like a giant searchlight, somewhere in the distance over the ocean.

Comet Lovejoy on Christmas Day 2011

More from comet Lovejoy: The comet put on a great show this morning. Christmas in Kiama - it doesn't get any better than this!

In the last photo, below, you can see Kiama Lighthouse on the left, comet Lovejoy on the right, in the rapidly brightening morning sky. What a show!
