Is there any way we can get real timestamps on posts, with the actual date and time, instead of the generic "2 days ago" or "3 weeks ago" that we have now? Sometimes it's nice to be able to tell when exactly a post was made, or how long it was in between posts.

As we are around the world, so which "official time" you would like to use ;)?

I'll take "the time zone setting that we all have in our user profile" for $1000, Alex.

The forum software stores a date/time stamp on every post and uses the time zone setting to display the info to us. All he's asking is for the actual (locale adjusted) time stamp rather than some generic "3 weeks ago." And I agree that I'd rather just see a date and time.

Any updates on that? As a software engineer I understand the amount of work involved but it seems like this new forum software has been "coming soon" for a while now.

Yes Pekka has worked on this for quite some time but I can assure you that it is not vaporware ;-)a Also be carefull comparing this to a normal software development project. Pekka is working on this alone and has a normal dayjob to attend to also.

Correction, it has not been coming soon, at least I have not said so.

As Tommy said, I have my day job which takes a lot of time, and I also have other aspects of life going on.

It has been on development last three years, and of that time actual coding time is maybe 40%. Lot of thinking, design and learning. It's not just a software to present forum messages, there are a lot of other features there and the whole product is totally something else than the common approach of "let's just put posts on a table with relational database stuff and some php to display it".

Almost there. I can definitely say the software will be online this year. POTN staff has been incredibly patient with me, I hope you can be, too :)

I don't mean to sound impatient, just curious. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
