like these Marm!

Otohp.

Ummm... Thanks!
It's weird; I felt off when I was shooting today and I think this is one of my least favorite photo-of-the-days. But I've gotten more comments about these than most of the ones I'm much happier about. Maybe I should figure out how to get "off" more often!

Thanks for the props Otohp :)

After posting the eagle silhouette I realized what I didn't like about it. I downloaded the LR3 trial (since I'm waiting for my purchased copy to arrive) and gave another go at it. I used LR to add more blue to the sky, then used Photoshop to clone out some of the twigs in an effort to de-clutter the image.

Well- what caught your eye and made you decide to snap the photo? Emphasize that aspect and minimize the distractions that detract from your intended emphasis.

In the first two, was it the lichen that caught eye? If so then use your DPP or in-camera picture styles to make those colors pop more. If you have Photoshop or Gimp you can selectively adjust things like: saturate and desaturate your colors, adjust curves, adjust contrast, adjust sharpness, etc. Assuming it was the lichen you were interested in, the colors aren't vibrant enough to compete with the sky. I would desaturate the sky and increase the saturation/contrast/sharpnes of the lichen

In the third photo, I would have been drawn to the natural framing provided by the windows between the rocks so I probably would have gotten closer to that and cropped out anything that distracted the viewer from looking at what I wanted them to look at.

There's alot more to it than that but that should get you started.

Thanks a ton I'll go back and refine the pictures to see what happens with your advice! It great to get constructive input!

Grats Mike!

I love the 7D's handling in low/no light situations. Even with a Sigma lens ;)
