Jim will write you back if you use his contact page - I wrote him yesterday and he got back to me in a few hours. There are several posts on here that say he does great work.

Thanks for the links Mike. Do you know if the standard FD mount conversion will work with the 55mm Aspherical .... looking at the EdMika ebay link it suggests that it is different.

There is no "standard" conversion. FD to EF mount conversions are lens specific. All basically involve shortening the lens so that the rear element is closer to the image plane. Some are easier than others, and many are just too difficult.

All FL lenses have the aperture controls at the front of the lens and is not part of the mount conversion. This makes the FL 55mm 1.2 relatively easy to convert. All FD lenses have the aperture controls at the rear and it makes it more difficult to retain aperture control when you disassemble the mount. Usually they have to custom fabricate pieces that engage the aperture ring and still work with the shortened length of the lens.

And some of the FD lenses have a lens that is fixed in the mount, not moving with the other lenses whilst focusing. They are harder to convert, like the FD 85/1.2L I converted. I think that Aspherical has this too.

I don't know if someone here bought it- but as everyone said $125 just for the 55mm alone was about half the going price. I couldn't see it lasting on craigslist that long

That's too bad. As they say, "you snooze, you lose." FYI, after he made his announcement of the adapter, the resale price of this lens skyrocketed. The seller probably didn't know and was selling it at the old going rate. You really should have jumped on it.

Now that you know, your mind will start filling with thoughts of a 300 2.8, or a 600. You'll find yourself hounding ebay. . . . . .;)

I bought and vonverted the FD 300mm f/2.8 L before I know Ed Mika
And furthermore converted the FD 400/2.8L and 500mm/4.5L - but they are not my own.

And with an old 800/5,6 I still think about how DIY :-)

And have the work and fun of converting and testing (not owning) a FD 400/2.8L and FD 500/4.5L.

I'm still on the lookout for a good FD 800L;) The 600 just doesn't quite have the reach....
Of course, after he did the interview with CanonRumors e-bay pretty much cleared out of the 600s and 800s that until then had been getting constantly re-listed.

LOL. So true. I downloaded an app for my phone that will alert me when certain terms are posted to craigslist so I don't miss any more.

Very true. Right now I just have a generic "canon" search and "lens" search going. But of course I get all the garbage coming through. Hey, I guess it is helping me to learn what different things are actually worth.
