Candid portrait shot looks great, that might be the tipping point for me to place an order for it

It's done a very good job with the exposure, since I bought the camera I,m very impressed with the amount of detail it records. It's hard to find any significant negatives, probably the focal length for macro and the shutter lag, that's about all really.

Shadowcat -- Shallow DOF is important to me. Could you please tell me how you achieved the blurred background in your first shot? What focal length, aperature, approx. distance between camera & subject and approx. distance between the man & the car? Macro mode or regular?

so far I find the low light focusing to be not so good more testing needed I had a hard time shooting my cat also the shutter lag is bad.

this is my only serious gripe after having the camera for a full day. I can live with the rubbish optical viewfinder for all the lovely IQ goodness, but the AF ....ugh!

After checking the AF of the G1x against my S95 they seem about the same I wish they could do something different with the AF like laser range finding.

Weekend test shots: Taken as JPEGS for the time being.
The first shot was a test for even exposure as the left side was slightly shade the right side bright. Shadows and highlights lifted in photoshop and vertical distortion corrected. The second shot might be faulty, this was a test for CA on the wire masts, I took 2 exposures and merged them together, but I don,t think it has worked correctly, can see a lot of CA at 300%. The third shot I was pretty pleased with, this was taken at 800 ISO and warmed up slightly in photoshop, liked the shadows and details. The fourth shot again seemed OK the exposure from the G1x was good, shadows and highlights adjusted slightly in photoshop. Perhaps we can assume that the default focus window is similar to having all your focus points switched on in DSLR, reducing thw window means lesser focus points meaning greater speed...................I think.
