Any thoughts regarding the Promaster brand batteries?

I bought these Maximal Power LP-E6 from Amazon, and it works wonderfully. They report remaining power & shutter clicks accurately

I just noticed that my 2 Phottix batteries (clones of the famous BP-511A) are pretty much dead because they last about 3 minutes each while in video mode on a 50D (with ML) .
The genuine Canon batteries are perfect and last more than 40 minutes each so i'm guessing the chinese ones are a bit cooked. I heard a lot about Sterlingtek but i don't know if it's worth to wait for them to be shipped from USA to Italy (where i live) . So, i wanted an alternative seller in Europe. What do you guys recommend? Is it ok to charge, let's say, a 2000 mAh battery with the standard Canon charger? A twin pack would be perfect. Thanks in advance. |

I too have had excellent results with the Maximal from Amazon on my 7D's and 5D2. Have 3 Canon OEM and 4 Maximal and can't tell any difference in performance among them.

My pattern of use is generally long periods of inactivity followed by short bursts of activity. I must say I am pretty happy with these batteries so far. They seem to retain most of their charge even after a couple months inactivity in the grip with the camera in standby/sleep. For the price, then, I think they are well worth it. Only problem I have is that they both have the same serial number, so I can only register one. However, the camera correctly displays power level and shots remaining individually for each Opteka battery in the grip.

![]() to test capacity i discharged the battery completely then recharged it twice. i got 110-120 shots, roughly half an OEM battery... not too shabby considering it was one-fifth the cost.

That's not really a useful contribution. If you've had a bad experience, or someone you know has had a bad experience, that would be useful information.
I've had about 25 Sterlingtek batteries over the years, and through my recommendation have had many people buy them. There was one dud out of all of them, the rest work as well as OEM batteries.

One thing to be aware of with third-party batteries is that the factory Canon charger will OFTEN claim they are "full" and stop charging them early. This, over time, leads to SEVERELY diminished capacity when there's nothing wrong with the battery -- it's just not being charged all the way and over time the accumulated deficit adds up!
