Default Canon 7D "Err" on top LCD

Hello

Last night I filled up one of my cards and got the "Card Full" message. I went to delete a couple of images but as I went to do so, the camera became totally unresponsive. I couldn't access the menu, the back LCD was just black. It was only when I went to power off that I noticed the word "Err" blinking on the top LCD.

I switched it off and back on again but the same thing, "Err" blinking on the top screen. For some reason I decided to remove the card first and reinsert it, powered on I was able to access the menu to delete my images.

Anyone know what this was? There were no numbers after the error so I've not really been able to find anything. It hasn't happened again since but I dread to think this is the start of more problems.

Just wondered, when a card is full - does the top lcd display "Err" anyway? (Can't say I'd noticed before) Maybe my camera just locked up...

Did it just say Err on the top LCD or was it followed by a number like Err 40 etc. Different error codes could mean different things.

Did you try dumping the files onto your computer and reformatting the card?
Try doing that and maybe this wont happen again.

Yanzibar, Last week, my 7D also started giving the err message with no number. The first few times, I could remove the battery, reinsert, and have the 7D operational again. Now,this morning, the camera is totally dead after giving out the dreaded err flashing in the LCD. Changed lens, changed cards, changed batteries, etc., but none of these steps would bring it back to life. For over two years my 7D has worked flawlessly. Unless someone on POTN has some effective suggestions, my next step is Canon Service. Good luck with yours!
