Lots of good ideas from everyone, actually. We should design our own and go into business.

Seems like we are due for a new speedlight for Canon considering past releases.

Model.......Introduced.......Discontinued -

550 EX ....... 1998 ........... 2004
580 EX ....... 2004 ........... 2007
580 EX II .... 2007 ........... 20??

What improvements could they make to improve on the 580 EX II ????

When I spoke with canon concerning a different repair, they said that their whole production has been backed up at least a year because of the bad weather recently in Japan. I wouldn't expect anything to be on schedule.

+1 on the Wirless built in and the 200MM zoom.

Also it would be useful to have some kind of battery meter or flashcount displayed. After heavy usage of the flash it tends to start not flashing when it should be flashing and it ruins shots. It always seems to leave me guessing when the batteries are starting to give out.

+1 I never know how much battery is left... Would be nice if it could tell how much juice the AA have left... but idk if that would be easy to acomplish since wouldnt the battery need some sort of chip?

Body: 5D MK II
Glass: Canon 24-105mm L f/4, Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro
Lights: 430EX II, YN 560, AB800

200mm throw would be nice only from a pie-in-the-sky perspective... a) they'd have to move the flash head back further into the flashgun's "barrel", which means MORE barrel, they are big enough already.
b) more power will eat even more batteries faster.

I'd like better battery handling and faster charging capacitors.

more power means it wont be named a 580 :)
It would be nice to see a speedlight from canon that has a higher GN. One that could compete with the sun while using a modifier like a softbox or beauty dish. I assume it would need to hold alot more than 4 batteries to do that :)

Wireless radio.

Wireless ETTL/Manual radio master /slave set up for the new series of Canon Flash

A little friendlier menu

And yes more power

In particular would love to see the 430 new incarnation with full 360 pivot head, I think is stupid to cripple the head just to make it a "consumer" grade product

Trouble is that you can't have that and also have it adjusted from the camera. Of course, if it was just a button instead of a switch, like the "mode" button...

It will be interesting to see what improvements have been incorporated into the new 600EX. The radio triggers have for one. Anything else?
