Planning a Kenya Safari Trip

Thanks for the thoughts and specs everyone! I'm puting together some safari stats for a trip after a Kilimanjaro summit. I'm still trying to determine if I need a larger zoom and this is all very helpful.

Just ask AYLIS to bring along some beanbags, no need to bring one over from Down Under, instead bring a second body. AYLIS is a small but very dependable company and if you do get Kamara as your driver / guide you have a good one. I did bring along the 500, 70-200, 28-70, 1.4 and 2 bodies. Next time I plan to take along the Wimberley head II and a Manfrotto 035 super clamp. I did change the clamp knob on it (for a round one) as the room between the rail and the roof it a little bit too small to be able to tighten it correctly. Leave early around 0615 and pack a brunch, make the most of the Masai Mara. I never had breakfast at Nyumbu.

They're planning to switch over to 220V in the excellent tents. In 2011 they were using low voltage lights, lights in the tent were much better than I experienced in other camps. Laundry is cheap and returned within 24 hours. Nyumbu is a basic camp, no pool, food is good and reasonably varied, staff are very nice and helpful, tent is excellent, has a shower and a toilet inside. They use English extension cord-multi sockets in the main guest area. You may want to bring multi socket and attach a UK plug to it. Getting to see a crossing is a hit and miss affair. No guarantees are given and be prepared to have to wait > 4 hours to see if something happens. In 2011 I counted 17 hot air balloons, a few years earlier there were only 4. Companies seem to pop up faster than bunnies can breed. Wish you a very nice trip!
