Default A request :: Train shots at Horseshoe Curve?

As a kid, I think I visited Horshoe Curve a dozen times. I have not been there in three decades. I was hoping to see some photos of it. I searched here, nada, so I thought to kindly ask.

As a kid I remember riding on a train through Pa , and you could see the engine pulling the train from the rear passenger cars, it was around a big horseshoe curve, think somewhere near Johnstown.

Is this the one you are referring to.

Me neither - that's why I actually looked at the thread in the first place. I couldn't figure out how a train could go through Horseshoe Bend near Page, AZ - that's what made me look I am not even into trains. Then when I saw your question it all became clear!

Hope you get your shot at Horseshoe CURVE!

Well, I can, but it will be shooting a framed print my dad has.... someday.

The problem at Horseshoe Curve is to get the shot, you'd have to do some serious hiking and know exactly when you'd have to be there.

Search on railpictures.net and you should find plenty of photos.

Horseshoe Curve is outside of Altoona, Pa. I live about 15 minutes from it and plan to spend lots of time there this summer. Due to health concerns have not been there for awhile. Years ago you could go year round and at no cost. You had to climb lots of steps to get up to it. Now you pay to get in and ride up a "funicular" (tram). It is no longer open year round, Open from April through October or November. Here is a link to some information on it.
