Many thanks, Mike. It's a good sign I think that I'm at least browsing and commenting here a bit. So far so good. A bit less pain each day.

Don’t know you Ian, but I know your pain. Guess you have time to read so I’ll share my story.
Had a big party while in the Air Force one night, in the wee hours of the morning I went down in pain. Rolled into the tub for a quick wash before the going to the base hospital didn’t think I would make it. After a day of all the running around for test while in pain, my pain eased off somewhat. The last doctor I saw came into the room, said how are you feeling? I said better now, think I’ll be heading home. He said you are not going anywhere, the nurse will be right in to prep you for surgery. WHAT? Don’t I have some say in this? No… he said. You are government property and we think your appendix is the problem and we are doing an exploratory surgery. Talk about a shock. In no time I was in the operating room. Came out into recovery and had this garden hose up my nose and down into my stomach. I fought tooth and nail trying to get that thing out only to be restrained. After what seemed an hour of cursing everybody out and fighting the restraints they took out the hose. Recovery was a nightmare. They made me walk when the pain was so bad I couldn’t believe it. I got a tube up the front end also. I guess they done on the job training there because every few hours of the night a whole gang of students would come in the room with flashlights and chat about the charts. Absolutely no sleep and during the day was worse. Well I finally got out of that mad house and while on medical leave I was locked up for DUI on base. Crap. They suspended my medical leave and made me go back to work early. Thankfully the DUI was dropped when the blood test came back. That was almost 30 years ago but I’ll never forget it. My appendix was removed but to this day I’m not sure that was the problem. Get well soon. |

I was away from the forum this past week, Ian, and only just now saw this. The whole experience must have been quite scary! I am so glad the surgery went well and that you are home and on the mend. Best wishes for your recovery, my friend.

Thanks Levina, I appreciate hearing from you. All appears well at this point, just trying not to jump back too soon.
