I'm wondering what a lot of you guys do! I always bring my macbook with me to dump photos after a day of snapping photos...but i dont really spend any time editing since i want to catch up on sleep in the hotel room instead of spending hours in front of lightroom. Do you guys spend the time to edit while there just in case you didnt get a shot you wanted or want to resnap a photo you messed up that you didnt notice until you imported your photos? Thanks!

I used to travel with my notebook and the main reason was to dump my pictures, but found it's pretty darn heavy (even if it stays in the hotel) few years ago there was no alternatives besides the IMO overpriced imagetanks. But that now has changed: tablets.
Early this year I finally purchased my first tablet (Asus TF201) and took it with me on my tokyo trip recently: absolutely loved it, it's small and lightweight and best of all has built in sdcard slot, which means after dumping the pictures to the harddrive I could back up immediately. being able to skim through the pictures was more than enough for me. editing I will do so when I'm home. |

No way would I waste valuable vacation time sitting in front of a computer doing anything. Back up photos, yes on something smaller/lighter than a laptop. Edit photos, no.

I take a laptop with lightroom. While the wife is getting ready in the morning/evening or it's 1am and we just got in, is usually the time I'm sitting on it.

No. Store in a pile of memory cards, edit about 3 when I get home, then find myself too busy or not in the mood.
Phone storage could only hold like 40 RAWs anyway with all the other garbage on it.

I usually dump my digital efforts onto an old laptop, and will occasionally indulge in a 30 minute chimping session. Once or twice I've whipped up a finished image so as to post it on-line or e-mail it so someone. (Neener, neener, look where I am!

I take enough CF cards to hold them all. I travel very light and don't want to lug a laptop (even just on the airplane). I review the shots on my camera to note where they were taken or any important notes, but that's all the "editing" I do.

I don't edit my travel shots when I am on the road, however I download the images to a notebook (my wife always has hers with her when we travel) do a cursory check to make sure I don't have any glaring equipment errors and then copy them to a pair of small physical size but, large capacity external hard drives. I carry one and my wife carries the other when we are en-route.

I've generally taken a laptop with me -- even the small cheap 15-inch widescreen that I presently have has Win7x64 and can Lightroom, Photoshop and DPP so it's really not much of a hassle, although I've never jumped on an IPod. But I shoot in Raw and so want at least one program, typically Lightroom, up and running.
Back when my Photography was "gearing up" I had a laptop custom put together to be a "portable workstation, a 17" widescreen with two internal hard drives, a dedicated graphics card, a good amount of RAM, at least for 5 or 6 years ago, etc, etc, and yes it saw use "on the road". It was great for out-of-town events. I also packed a little portable hard drive with Raw viewing capabilities and card slots, including CF card slots, so it saw use as well. But I also remember times when my DSLR camera gear sat in the motel room untouched while I was out and about with a compact/pocket camera, enjoying the "life", and actually have come back with some pics from those times, and so it's really up to you what you want to do, to shoot, and to pack!

I travel frequently. The laptop and a couple of physically small EHDs are always along. I dump the cards on a daily basis and usually give things a quick once over in LR. I don't spend a lot of time editing, but like Jay mentioned, I might toss something together for a quick post to Facebook. Lots of friends and family get a kick out of shots from the road.
