Don't expect too much now. As linked in the original post, the support for the A80 reached end of life in June, 2011. Probably because they're out of spare parts.

Some of those models (S500 for example) they do have parts for, but they now intend charging for replacing the sensor. No, it's the change in policy I was expecting once Canon started raising their prices. I have been a loyal Canon customer for years largely because they DID stand by their products. With the new CEO that seems to be ending, and they're becoming "just another manufacturer". I'd like to be wrong, but all the signs point in that direction. Makes my possible move to Nikon easier.
