in the composition in gig photography?
Last night I was at the Skindred concert (tour), the people behind the scenes of the concert had so many photographers in the pit, more than usual at the venue I usually go to. Not all of the shots were thankfully, just a few were having photographers shoving their lens in the way (I'm sure that I was in their view in some of the shots), but to those who shoot for publications, would your editor accept that kind of shot?

I think it would depend on the overall composition. If the photographer is a significant part of the shot, then they become part of the composition, showing the act and the action going on around them, just as if you had a shot shooting out towards the crowd and showed some of them and their reaction to the band.
If, on the other hand, you just have the front three quarters of a big white lens sticking in at the side of the scene, or the camera and hands holding it but nothing else, then it is going to be a problem as it will detract from the scene and not add to it. Photographers are part of the gig scene, having them in shot is fine so long as they work well in the composition. Just like anything else that is in the shot. |

I see your point, I have seen some on magazine websites where they have togs in the photos, but don't seem to see them where print is concerned i.e. online newspapers or a music magazine beginning with a "N"

I have done it when I move to the side of the pit and take the UWA to get a shot of the band and crowd. The photogs will naturally get in the way.
Now last night, some photographer had a flash on her camera with a big "diffuser" and would chimp constantly and her flash head kept getting in shots.

I can understand if it is un-avoidable like that, but with lens hood, it seems a no no. Or maybe I am worrying too much about getting published, lol
