You can have a 580 on top of the TT1... Now, if your 580EXII is not fitted for the TT5 you might be without lights. The 580 has issues when they are used with TT5/TT1. If you must use them have one for spare because you might end up using the spare if you see the pre-flash but no actual flash. I will recommend you to take a few pics and check the LCD to make sure that the exposure is correct. If I where you I will use the 430EXII/TT5 and not the 580EXII. If you must use the 580EXII use it with the TT1 but you MUST have a spare because it might fail. I don't think there is any special setup for the TT1 to trigger the 580 on top. I use this setup but I have a bracket so I use an OC e3 to connect both elements.

Good luck...

EX or EXII? I think if it's the original EX, you can ignore most of the previous post.

Hopefully someone can answer your real question.

i've got the 580exii. thanks for the posts! so i had the 580 on top of the tt1 and it fires but the 580 on the tt5 fires with a delay therefore does not show up in the exposure. does anybody know why the 590exii does not work well with tt1/tt5? i've ALWAYS had problems with this set up and A LOT of misfires. i've been so frustrated that i am about to send the wizards back a 2nd time.

Is it possible that the 580 on the TT5 is being triggered optically by an ETTL pre-flash from something, rather than by the TT5 itself? This will make it not show up in the exposure.

Misfires with the 580EXII sem to be rooted in RF interference (the flash emits RF interference in the same frequency as the PWs' communication channel). However, my impression has been that this causes non-flashes rather than flashes that are so far out of timing that they aren't in the exposure.

PW can modify your 580s to contain the RF, if you don't want to use the sock.
