Yeah, but was that in compliance with NC laws? Bet it wasn't. What you can get away with and what's in compliance with the local laws are two, often vastly, different things.

Friend did a 4 wheel drive trip to Cape York (northern tip of Aust.) last year and travelled through a few of these areas. It's not uncommon for tourists to bury their Alcohol on the side of the road and pick it back up on the way back. He ran the advisory line before hand and the advice they gave was totally wrong after checking this against the advice of some police friends.

I actually did some looking into it and never found anything that said I could not bring in my own alcohol.

Actually here is the actual law. I knew I had seen something.

If you wish to purchase out of the state a greater amount of wine, you must obtain a Purchase Transportation Permit from your local ABC Board. There are no permits for greater amount of malt beverages or spirituous liquor.

Guess that means they frown on you bringing Canadian beer back home from various travels.

Maybe North Carolina doesn't want outsiders cutting into their moonshine profits?

Could be! If you think for one second that it isn't still a lucrative business here, you would be quite mistaken. They spend so much time chasing the pot growers and meth labs that the shine trade is booming again!

Heck, we built a massive deck onto the front of our house and never even got a building permit for it.
Same here. We can do anything we want out on our place.

That's because of the 4,000 or so different laws that govern the alcohol industry and give individual states unprecedented rights to regulate sales and consumption within their borders.
and just what about the BOXES! hmmmmm?

There have been a few places (Kansas, New Mexico, Wyoming) that I always had to go to liquor stores to buy my wine. Stupid laws. Montana is a wonderful state!
