My first panning shot
This was about the fifth shot I took when I tried panning last weekend at a track day. 1/80th of a second at f2.8 and 100 ISO, 70-200 zoom at 70mm. It was a small track and a very heavy overcast day. Its not perfect but not too bad. I didn't have a monopod but will going forward.

Not bad for your first panning shot.
As for the monopod, you really don't need it for panning as it would limit your range of motion. In fact, I never use a monopod when panning.

Like it. Did you pre-focus or use the camera's continuous AF?

It looks like it's probably absolutely spot on but I can't tell 100% because of the image compression making the edges look blurry.
