Fantastic shots guys! Here's my moonrise shot from the Marin Headlands. There we hundreds of people on the ridge that I was on alone, I can't imagine how many people total were there. Possibly upwards of 1,000 people!

This was nowhere near the horizon. From my location (San Jose, CA) the moonrise was at 8:00 pm from the horizon. This was shot at 8:34 pm. By this point the sun had already set and I was at a location between mountains so it was quite dark at this point. Like I mentioned this is two seperate exposures. The moon was ETTR and brought down about 1 1/3 of a stop in post. WB temp was 3100 bringing the moon to more of its natural color. The original moon was blown out hence why I composit the exposures. Maybe I shouldnt have brought down the exposure that much and increase the WB temp to add some color in the moon?

nice shot. yeah there were tons of people there...i decided at 7:35 that maybe it'd be cool to go up there, and see what's up...i totally wasn't expecting so many people...since i arrived so close to 8:00 there was nowhere to park...drove all the way to the top of hawk hill...and was thinking screw it, and started driving back...then i figured i'd just park my car in the street, and pop out for 5min to take some shots ...i was at the point past the gates up top that are supposed to close at sunset...the rangers were driving around telling everyone they had to leave...hardly anyone moved

These are great. I went out every hour to see if the clouds cleared, they never did. So disappointed. But glad you all got some nice shots.

Thanks I was definitely not expecting such a huge crowd either. My dad and I got up there at around 6:50 and we were lucky to get a parking spot near the roundabout just before Hawk Hill. My brother and mom were at the Westfield mall on Powell street and they got to hawk hill at around 8:20. It was funny how like three park rangers tried to get ride of everyone. I also like how that one ranger lady went up and down the hill with her megaphone saying "the park is now closed" right after the moon came up :rolloeyes: What a troll she was.

I know it's nothing special, compared to some of the amazing photos here, but it was my first successful attempt at shooting the moon. I totally forgot about what time it was rising here in Italy so I was out running when I saw just how huge it was on the horizon. My running trails (orange orchards) would've been a great place to get that shot. Oh well, maybe next time!
