Hardly. The iMac is a super integrated all-in-one which has a horrible build. Just try replacing things if you ever need...or if the monitor dies...

My PC builds are most likely higher quality than Apple, but that's because I can pick and choose the best hardware.

It must be the luck of the draw then, I had lots of bad experiences with PC's. What I was saying about the updates was with PC if you were out of date you had to go on the windows website and download ten different things so that you can download the latest update. I could care less if I have a 2gb+ update. That happens rarely and when it does they are pretty useful. Also I just updated my os and it actually saved me 8 GB of space so updates are a good thing with mac no matter how small or big.


I don't want this to start an internet battle.... there are plenty of those elsewhere. All Im saying is I have owned both systems and if I had one computer that I had to have the rest of my life it would be a MAC.

You took that a bit out of context, I was trying hard as hell to get it to crash, at least that's the impression I got after reading about deleting corrupt files on Google.

Protip: use Disk utility and "repair" the disk (clears out junk/false file entries).

The iMAC does have a nice form factor in that it is pleasant to look at on a desk but the all-in-one nature of the unit brings many shorcomings - not least a general lack of expandability, limitations on cooling prohibiting overclocking (even if Apple would let you at the BIOS) and the use of mobile (laptop) graphics cards.

I too have a hackintosh with 12G memory running at 4.2GHZ but 99% of the time I boot up into Windows 7 because it can do everything that I want with the exception of running the Apple Developer Apps.

At the end of the day - if you like and want an iMAC and can live with the limitations then buy one - it is, by far, the best All-in-one solution on the market.

It is not however the best computer on the market by any stretch of the imagination.

I know of a big institution who installed Win7 on all their iMac machines, and they are super happy with it, never went back to the "Most Advanced OS in The World" ==> I'll argue that all day everyday

Indeed....I run all kind of OSs and hardware....I found Win7 is the best overall, from stability, user friendliness, customization, file sharing, gaming, apps.....and the list goes on and on....if you want to pay top dollar for slick and skinny

The trend I noticed lately is people who spend on overpriced machines trend to get very defensive about it...… $2600 for a MacBook Pro gimme a break! just saying

I do notice that the folks who have no problem with Windows are those either in the PC field or hobbyists who build and maintain their own machines - I've made some money off the average person who wants a computer, picks a PC, and then needs some real, hands on, technical support. If I wanted to build my own machine (and maintain it) which I did for years, today I would build a Hackintosh. I don't want to do that yet (the limitations of the iMac haven't bothered me enough yet).

I could always move to a Mac Pro but now the price difference is really bothering me.

If you can try the Mac OS enough to get a feel for it you can make a rational decision that meets YOUR needs, not mine.

But if you decide on Windows, then decide which current version you want.
If you decide on Mac take the one that comes with it. I think there is only one current version.

I personally don't recommend Macs all that much. The more folks that use them, the larger target they become for the idiots who write viruses.

I've noticed that too. A lot of people I've seen buy macs are barely able to operate Yahoo mail yet somehow think the problem lies with their Windows PC. They can't seem to grasp that email and Facebook won't work any better on $2000 mac than a $500 PC.

This is a really simpleton and offensive comment. I have a minor in computer science and I have used Macs since graduate school. Macs may be expensive, but they are not overpriced.

Apple understands THE most important aspect of any hardware: The Consumer Experience. This is why they're the most valuable corporation in the world - they make products that people enjoy using.
