I am still making modifications but it is essentially a bottle of body mist, the stuff girls use to smell all delicious and fruitful, and I found it in our recycling bin. Next I sanded the entire bottle with 60 grit sandpaper until it was no longer transparent. I measured how deep the lens could go into the bottle without cutting all the way through the bottle and I used a razor saw from a hobby shop to cut a hole in the bottle. I cut a small elbow out of plastic to support the front of the bottle and used a soldering iron to weld the plastic to the bottom of the bottle. Next I taped off the holes and spray painted the bottle black. After that I used electric tape to seal the space below the flash so that no light would leak and then I began testing the flash. It was still to bright so I began to add layers of scotch tape to diffuse more light and it worked alot better. The best thing about this diffuser is that it allows the pop up flash to be redirected down on top of my subject. I am going to try and add a concave upwards piece of plastic this tomorrow to further spread and diffuse the flash. I would also like to start using a linear polarized filter.

What kind of flash bracket is that?

The arm and bracket are from a Boica underwater slave strobe that I had knocking around from a previous life, my arthritis has been too bad to dive recently so I adapted what I had around me.

Canon 50mm f1.8 revered, 52-55mm coupler, Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro, Fotodiox Extension tubes (50mm)
YN-465 tethered to a simple flash bracket.

I was trying out a new position for my diffuser and had to use an off-shoe cord (non canon - ebay) however the flash ended up overexposing everything considerably. Could that be a fault with the off-shoe cord not working properly with ETTL?

Is it worth spending the extra £50 on the official canon one?
