Going there soon.
I plan to of course hit up Snake River Overlook, Mormon Row and other typical places. Any other off the beaten path type spots I should know about?

Hidden Falls. If you take the boat ride across Jenny Lake, it's a short hike to the falls. Or, you can walk around the lake and save money. Schwabacher Landing at sunrise is good. The Moose-Wilson Road is usually good for spotting moose. Lake Jackson has some good scenery, especially early in the day. Two Ocean Lake is supposed to be a good moose spot, but it hasn't been for me.

Be sure to stop at the Pioneer Grill in Jackson Lake Lodge for some huckleberry pie. I'm a southern boy who had never even heard of huckleberries before, and it was delicious. We made a point to stop there a second time on our way back to Salt Lake City from Yellowstone.

Spend as much time as you can around Jenny Lake, primarily early morning.. wonderful place to shoot. Also, not sure on the timing, but you may want to hit Lupine Meadows which is just south of Jenny Lake. if they're in bloom they make for some fantastic photo ops.

Just keep your eyes open as you wander around the park. There is hardly a bad place to shoot the Tetons from. I took this from I know not where some 34 years ago. It's a scanned slide shot with a Minolta SRT-102. Not even sure what lens I used for it. I camped in the Gros Ventre campground and this might be from that vicinity.

Thanks for the rec for Hidden Falls - I had already found and planned on doing that one. Also thought about Taggart Lake but I probably won't have time as I will likely only have 3 days for sunrises. Mormon Row and Snake River Overlook being two of them most likely.

Go east from Mormon Row to the Slide Lake. You never know what is up and down those hills in the morning.

Excellent suggestion for Jenny Lake. I was there 4 years ago and got to Jenny Lake every morning around 6:30am. It was wonderful and I felt like I had the whole place to myself....which I did at that hour! Great to hike around too. I would also take the south entrance from Moose Wilson Road into the park. You wind up on an unpaved road for a portion but there is some great wildlife along that spot. Early in the morning is usually best.
Another suggestion....get to Oxbox bend a little further north if you can. Enjoy!! |

How about the Old Patriarch tree? I haven't been to Wyoming yet (arriving in 29 days) but that's one spot I plan to check out.

You may also want to visit the west side of the Tetons. Go over Teton Pass to Driggs, Idaho, turn east to Alta, Wyoming. Once past Alta, all the way to Grand Targhee, there are plenty of photo opportunities. Best time to photograph the Tetons, from that side, is during evening hours; light is much too flat earlier in the day.
