Was scape difficult?

Unfortunately 2N13 remains closed for past several years so I have had no chance geting up there. I have heard you can take your mountain bike and do the last 3 miles that is now closed to cars, by bike or hiking. Better yet I am looking forward to see road becoming open this summer.

BTW are you spending large amount of time in Big Bear?
I hiked to the tower from nearby Crafts Peak. I spent a little time visiting with the volunteer who was working there that day, then hiked back to my car that was parked near Crafts. As I drove back down the mountains, somewhere around Crestline is when I saw the smoke that turned out to be the beginning of the fire.

I used to spend a lot more time in that area years ago, but not so much now. Last time I was in the Big Bear area was in September of last year when I rented a cabin in Boulder Bay for a night.

Interesting.

Did you know that Department of Forestry permits stay for the night at some of the fire look outs when volunteer leave in evening to give back the keys next day at morning when they come again. Discovery center in North shore can provide more info. I am really hoping to find myself at least for one of those occasion.
There is a Osborne Fire Finder in this place that is the old way GPS to triangulate and report the exact location of the fire. Another picture from far:

On the other hand Boulder bay is totally the part of Big Bear that I can spent rest of my life in, happily.
Unlike last two years, this was a warm winter. This is a picture of the 2nd storm of year in Boulder bay leading to some early but descent snow collection:

One of my secret and lovely locations in Boulder Bay that most visitors miss:

Same location a later at night:

Well may be next time up in mountain call me so we may meet and have some walk around & shooting.

Me, too. Well... Somewhere around the south shore of Lake Tahoe would be my first choice, but Boulder Bay at Big Bear Lake would be a *very* close second.

Do you live somewhere around there?

I'd really like to get up there soon and see if I can get a glimpse of that new Bald Eagle chick that was recently discovered in an old nest near Fawnskin on the north side of the lake. I don't know if I'll be able to find the time, though. We'll see...

I usually live during weekends in Big Bear lake.

Not seen the Ckick but a few weeks back I was lucky to see this Juvenal Bald Eagle right at Boulder bay flying over ducks and coots.

This is the guy close up while fly.

I have some pictures of George and Gracie from last year but haven't seen them this year in Big Bear. Additionally the Feb count of Eagle showed a significant decrease in Eagle number. Not sure if this is the effect of warm winter or they prefer Colorado river area.

By the way, Flickr has a few viewing modes that can be very nice -- there is the "lightbox" mode which you can get when you click on a pic when you open it in Flickr.

But, a lot of folks don't know this, but you can paste a link here that will automatically open in the Lightbox mode with the dark frame and larger size -- to do this just take the image URL and type "lightbox" at the end and put it here as usual. Try it!

And then also in Flickr you can get from the "regular" Lightbox view to a Full Screen view by clicking F-11 but I doubt you can build that into a URL. But getting people to Lightbox and then telling them to click F-11 is a cool way of "Wow"ing them if you have a nice large image to share!

Boy, I'm not a Flickr user, so can't give specific help here!

I'd say, though, that you likely won't be able to embed a pic here in the "lightbox" mode, but you should be able to post a link. But since I'm not a Flickr user, I can't say about specifics. It does work in Facebook when posting a link, though.
