I'd probably take advantage of some poor Nikon sap's misfortune and buy a D700 for cheap. $750 sounds like a pretty good price to get a FF Nikon. In fact, make it the D$700 and I'm all over it.

No way they are doing a $1500 FF camera. The D7000 was almost that much with similar specs and cheap build.
If I'm wrong, I'll be first in line to buy one, though.

If the rumoured specs are true, then that's everything the 5D3 is (better sensor, slightly worse AF, similar speed) at less than half the price!

$1500 is not that far fetched. considering the d600 could be a cheaper build than a d7000. i can see the d600 as a consumer grade ff dslr while the d7000 is an enthusiast crop dslr. i can see nikon stuffing a ff sensor into consumer type body such as a d5100 without af motor, without top lcd, polycarbonate body etc.

Wouldn't it be a 4D if it was better?

I wouldn't be unhappy to pay $1500 if the D600 was of D5XXX build quality and lightweight. I can live without "magnesium shell" bragging rights. I don't drop my cameras or use them to hold doors open, so I don't need it to have the strength of a gun safe. My F75 is super plasticky and not a ding or scuff on it. I also don't need a top LCD. All these things are just bonuses for me. I kinda wish they were keeping a cheaper AF motor akin to the D90, but if they are going to actually make lenses like the rumored 24-70/3.5-4.5, then I don't NEED it. It would be nice for them to keep a pentaprism, albeit a lower quality one (95%, .65-.70x), but I could also live with a pentamirror if its in the name of low weight/low cost.

I'm still finding the price for the D600 to be a little hard to believe. In a Canon whitepaper, Canon said that they could produce roughly 200 APS-C sensors on a wafer while only about 20 full frame sensors.
http://www.robgalbraith.com/public_f...hite_Paper.pdf This whitepaper is old and I'm sure they have more efficient manufacturing processes now but, as far as I know, you can't change the ratio of the number of APS-C and full frame sensors produced on the same wafer. |

I would hope they've moved past 8 inch wafers. |
