Quick stupid question:
I have several methods of attack for photoshop and LR3, but I need to know how to go about it in LR4. Supposeadly, CF control has been reworked and its easier than ever with several control sliders. Only problem is I don't know where they are. Can someone point me to where I can find them? My 85mm (Barney the Purple Dinosaur) is needing some attention in its shots. |

In the Develop module on the right hand side, go down toward the bottom to the Lens Correction panel (press Ctl/Cmd-6).
At the bottom of the panel you see the Defringe option. Click on the setting to bring down a drop-down list of choices. I don't yet have the FR4.1 RC installed, so I'm not sure about what they have added for that but evidently something -- maybe someone can chime in who has the RC!

However, I'm always prepared to tweak, especially with purple fringing. You can take a local adjustment brush in LR, set to adjust saturation, and you can pull the slider back and you can select the color purple in the Color box, paint over the fringing, and that can go a long ways.

Download 4.1 RC2. They have added a new set of controls for CA fringing. NO MORE PURPLE on my 85mm 1.8. View your photo 2:1 or even 3:1 and use the eyedroper in the lens color panel, click on the fringing and watch it disappear. You can do the same for green fringing as well. There is a article explaining how to use it on Adobe's Site. LOVE IT!

Thanks for the input guys. Tony, I am wondering if my LR4 is setup differently because my lens correction menu only allows me one option for def ringing: a dropdown with "off, highlight edges, all edges."
Interesting...I will play with it more then download the RC. Thanks again. |

The options you see are what are in LR4, I just don't knwo what shows up in the RC, so go with what Gregory says!

RC2 is different from RC1. Lens Correction now has three tabs and the CA and the fringing tools are in the Color tab. You can use the eyedropper or set/tweak the tools manually. When using the sliders, hold down Alt/Opt in order to clearly see the discolorations.

Hey Dave, thanks!
I've been putting off installing one of the RCs, just because I've got so munch going on from day to day with the 'puter, and stuff I'm working on in Lightroom, yada yada. Maybe this weekend I'll clear out the ol' desktop and get RC2 running!

No problem. I must admit I didnt notice it until a few days ago, wasn't sure if it was there in RC1 and couldn't see any threads about it so figured it wasn't new.

That's great! I've been going the lazy route and turning down purple saturation but that obviously won't work for some applications...

Exactly what I've been doing until now. I've always loved how good DPP is at doing this, the reduce colour blur option seems to do a very good job and have wished LR could be that good, maybe it's closer now.

One caution - you really have to do it on an image by image basis. A couple weeks ago I inadvertently included it in some synchronized parameters and if I had hair I would have torn it out while trying to find where the nasty haloes came from.

Good advice. I normally have lens correction turned on during import but only have the standard CA correction enabled.
The lenses I use most don't tend to suffer too much so it's not something I would need to do mess with most of the time.
