Default Help with buying an editing computer?

I really need a new editing computer, I'm stuck on the dinosaur Dell Inspiron E1505, and a 21.3" monitor, but the laptop has good days and bad days- mostly bad days. I have been looking at the Acer Aspire M3 desktop, but I concluded that I would like an All-in-one more. Does anybody know of a good All-in-one for photo editing? I mostly use PS and Bridge, as well as the Canon Utilities and stuff. Budget is around 1000 at most. Thanks for any help!

Why do you want an all in one?

That machine's pretty good, spec wise. You might be able to do it cheaper if you buy standard, not all in one.

The main things you want are i5 or i7 processor, 8GB RAM, and ideally both an SSD and a hard disk.

Really the only reason is because it is more portable then a desktop, and ultimately a laptop as well- Now that I use my big monitor, whenever I go back to my 17" laptop screen it drives me crazy. So now when I set up my booth, I have to bring a monitor as well as all my other gear. And it goes without saying that I can't bring a desktop to a shoot! I agree that it would be cheaper to get it in a desktop, but it needs to be portable. Thanks for the specs, I'll look around some more.

Get a laptop and a larger external screen.

That's what I have now, but it's a pain to have a carry all my gear, plus my laptop, plus a external screen.

Booth as in at a wedding show or something? For that I'd use a 40" LCD TV.

I do a think called mini sessioning, I set up a booth somewhere (for example, a karate dojo) and people sign up for 20 minute shoots. They don't pay for it. Right after we are done shooting, we sit down at the computer and they view the pictures from the session, and then order prints.

Consider something like an HP Envy 17. You get a decent LED lighted screen and keyboard, HDMI output, and plenty of USB 3 and 2 ports. Mine as a quad core CPU, 8GB, two 1TB drives (for duplicated storage) and a boot SSD (for faster performance).

Build your own desktop, look for these parts:
Quad core CPU, 8GB of ram or more, SSD for boot drive, and 7200 RPM for storage, and a nice graphics card 1gb or higher will do the job.

If you build a desktop,,,consider running it as a Hackintosh or dual boot on Windows and OS X. Then you can have the best of both worlds.

I know everyone likes the i5 and i7 Intel processors, but I recently built a new desktop and used the 3.2 6 core AMD "bulldozer" and love it esp since it was way cheaper as well...

AMD can win on price, but price/performance isn't great for AMD right now unless you can get cheaper memory and motherboard.

Also if you want Hack only or dual boot...stay with Intel processors. I was an AMD fan/user for years. But when Intel came out with Sandy Bridge.....that was enough for me to move back to the Intel world. Using an AMD processor is like using a camera brand other than Canon or Nikon. It will work, but you will never have the same level of support and accessories available.
