I hope they don't put video on it as well. The M9 is already all I want it to be except for the sensor.
Give me a CMOS sensor as good as D800's and I'll buy one faster than you can say "rangefinder"

Hey guys,

I've been saving up my pennies and it looks like I'll have enough for my dream kit come this August. I'm looking at getting a M9 and Zeiss 35 Biogon. (maybe a 35 Summilux after some more hardcore penny saving down the road.) I know no one really knows what/when the M10 will be/come, but do you all think the M9 price will tank? I'd rather wait a bit and purchase when it does, obviously. I just feel like one of those people in 2009 waiting for the new 24-70L.

Thanks a lot!

LOL! Had the same idea as you and, judging by the price drops on the M8 when the M9 first came, I think it will drop a bit but far from what we'd like it to.
I think (and I'm just assuming here) quite a few Leica shooters will prefer to keep the "dated" M9 (that is an AWESOME camera) home as a collectible than selling it cheap.

Photokina is in September. If you'll get the money for it in August, then I'd wait for it. 1 month won't kill you.
Dang! I have the money right now and am going to wait. Perhaps we can start a Support Group?

Yeah, I don't expect it to drop much as I think it's better to keep some sense of exclusivity - maybe tank wasn't the best word. I just won't be a happy camper if I buy a new one for 7k and they start selling used for ~4k; that's like halfway to a 35 lux. But, at the same time if for some reason everyone hates the M10 the M9 might go up and I'd be sad when they are 8k+. I'll probably just wait til September and buy the damn thing so I can be a happy camper. You're a brave soul, I don't even have all of the funds yet and I'm going insane, can't imagine being in your position. A support group doesn't sound all that bad.

The price will drop a little on the M9, sure - that's to be expected. But don't expect an early Christmas! When the M9 first came out, the same thing happened with the M8 - a slight dip, nothing more. The price hasn't changed much since.

Rest assured, the M10 will likely be a rather... Pricey affair. If it's generally "too much" then people will start snapping up those M9s - which will most certainly delay any price drops.

If you can, get your M9 now and buy it from a dealer so you get the full warranty. Use it, enjoy it. Shoot it like you stole it.

Thanks for the input, hadn't really thought about the warranty and now I couldn't agree more. Now, to find the newer 35 Summilux for a decent price...

I've never needed the warranty for any of my Leica gear (so far, knock on wood) but it's nice to have when spending this kind of coin!

As for a reasonable price on the 35 FLE... As we like to say in Brooklyn, "fuhgeddaboudit."

No kidding! If this guy declines my offer on Ebay, I'll probably be looking at the 35 Biogon or Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 II. Leaning towards the Zeiss though because I don't think I need f/1.2 and the size of the Voigtlander puts me off.

Nice review of the Leica 50 1.4, btw. Such an incredible piece of glass. Too bad I prefer the 35mm focal length.

Personally, I think the Zeiss has a better look than the Voigtlander too but that 1.2 is tempting

I'm a bit torn myself. I prefer the look (and cost) of the 35 ASPH, but a little turned off by the focus shift... The 35 FLE is just major coin. I'll have to wait and hopefully pick it up next time I'm in Germany (this fall).

I have both the Biogon and Nokton as well. Both are actually quite nice. The Biogon has practically zero distortion and has the really nice "Zeiss look" while the Nokton, well, goes to f/1.2! And it's actually quite nice wide open. It is a tank, but not so bad. It's actually got me on the fence about a Leica 35 (hey, it's paid for and proven).

Thanks! Yeah, truth be told it's been my favorite lens since getting it. It's ridiculously good from wide open, has a great character and small (relatively)! But yeah... I find myself drawn to a 35 a bit more.

On the M8 I had it good - I used the 2,8/25 ZM for a ~33mm equivalent. That lens, plain and simple - is insane. Even wide open, but especially in the butter zone... Great googly moogly is it sharp. Not particularly fast at f/2.8, but still.
