My body of work. Somebody please be brutally honest with me. I've been practicing photography as a hobby for the last 3 years however I have "writers" block and haven't been practicing the last 6 months or so. I LOVE photography but I feel as though something is missing from my work. |

You have a lot of different styles and genres going on - a little bit here and a little bit there. You obviously have talent and a good imagination. Maybe you worry too much. You might try focusing on one genre and working on that for a while and post some images (not links) here for critique.

been there I got out of it by picking a general topic like reflections, shadows, night time....then I start my search...What kind of reflections can I find..... or what shapes of shadows can I find....time of day has no bearing....you grab your camera take off....deal with what ever the light is at the time...don't plan it just go....I'm telling you its amazing what you find....things you have passed a million times all of sudden pop out......

As Qbx said, "You obviously have talent and a good imagination.", & I agree. What I see "missing" in some of these is attention to the basics. For instance, looking at the lighting before you take a shot is important, and so are the camera controls, & I get the feeling that you're using PP as a crutch to cover up for that lack of attention? For instance...
http://public.fotki.com/BlueSmokeBur...ancamelia.html You missed the obvious here. ![]() What's artistic about cutting off the ends? The light on it is great, but why not PP the trees reflected in the side? And keep in mind that our eyes are drawn to the brighter parts of the shot. And those bright areas tend to make the dark subject look even darker. Take a look at POST #30 near the bottom: The gray bar at the center is the same density all the way across. A few Car Lighting Tips Keep at it & remember, if you (usually) start with a good shot, you'll end up with a better one after PP.

^This is what I need. I can take brutal honesty. I can't correct issues if I don't notice them. Even the obvious ones.
I may take a walk tomorrow and take a couple shots and post here. |
