I think I'll opt for that at renewal then - I don't really make use of the portfolio if I'm honest!

Thanks for the comment on 500px just now Lee, I had a bit of feed back about that one a few days ago as another photographer Sian has worked with in the past saw it and asked her where she had it taken, who by and what camera and lens etc and didn't believe her when she said it was taken in my front room with a 450d he's conviced she's been to some pro studio to have shots done. Now while I don't like to blow my own trumpet a comment like that does make me feel good especially when I can see everything I did wrong when I shot it.

confirmation indeed - that it is the photographer and not the camera/lens/kit that makes a great photo... I would bask in the smugness

One of mine did well in the first couple of days then plummeted, while others have been unchanged for months. I couldn't see the "dislike" stats but guessed that was the reason! Lately, I've seen a lot of people putting up multiple versions of the same shoot. Not quite as bad as Flickr though - where people seem to upload entire memory cards of a single shoot!

typically (and, Mark, feel free to correct me here) an image does best on day one - after that any additional votes/likes/faves have less of an effect and in fact can actually bring the 'pulse' down - they have added a highest 'pulse' so you can actually see the best it has done - it certainly seems it's all about immediate impact with 500px

That is why currently we are working on improving the algorithm, we are also going to introduce new factors encouraging photographers to leave constructive criticism.

not thats got anything to do with the selling stuff but its nice to think they might try and make the voting fairer..
Thats what i asked for in my post to them a while back which eventually had 2 or 3 500px developers responding to it. Then someone came in throwing abuse and the thread got stripped out and closed
