Well that's a really low bar. I think it more like "We're not happy until you're not broke..."

So, we started to get to know the new neighbours over the past couple of days. On the way home from the train station tonight, I bumped into a nice fella...as we were walking back to the townhouses, there were 2 state cops next to his house...turns out an older guy who just had open heart surgery over the weekend passed away... Sad times for the new neighbours!! We'll keep a somewhat low profile for a couple of days until the mood lightens up a bit...

It's always good to see J.J. on a Wednesday. That's the surest sign there is that he survived yet another Tuesday. Congrats!!

The bicycle tire saga continues.

[RERUN]I replaced the front tire/tube a couple days ago. The bead on that tire failed, causing a blowout, and they replaced it on Monday, gratis. No problem. On Monday, I installed the new tire/tube, and went for a 13-mile ride on it without incident. [/RERUN]

Yesterday (Tuesday) when I got up for my morning ride, the front tire was flat again. I pulled the tire/tube back off, and inflated the tube. I couldn't find any apparent leaks, but as a precaution, I bought two more tubes yesterday, one to install, and one to keep as a spare. Last night when we got home from our trip to Orange County, I installed one of the new tubes. During the first pump-up, it blew at about 50 psi. I pulled it apart again, and found it had split on one of the molding seams. I installed the second new tube, and it went fine. When I got up this morning, it was holding air, and I went for a 5-mile ride.

The new tube that went flat yesterday is also still holding air. I'm going to do a more thorough check of it today by holding it under water to see if I can spot a leak, but it I don't find one, I'll assume it was the valve not properly seated, and keep it as a spare.

New subject:

There is a lot of concern about standing water here; we've had reported cases of West Nile Virus in the area. We called the HOA yesterday about the abandoned house across the street, and by noon, they had a pool service pumping out the water, and gardeners were cutting the lawn and pruning all the shrubs. Our first conversation with the association manager was, ummm, shall we say, contentious? He was not happy to have a new problem dumped in his lap, and he made it pretty clear. TOUGH!! He called back later in the afternoon after seeing the house and recognizing the problem, and was just the sweetest man. I'm sure he is constantly dealing with unhappy property owners bitching about their neighbors, and I'm sure he was fully prepared to dismiss our call as just some busybody whiners. I had to point out that this was the first time in 12 years we've ever called them with a problem, and if he didn't want to take us seriously, I was fully prepared to run for the Board of Directors (who is always looking for new blood), and bring my disagreeable personality to that organization. Then he could deal with me on a constant basis.

He opted to solve the problem and get rid of me.

You have to admit, those old guys could sure make pretty aeroplanes.

Not to mention, the neighbor.

Too bad, Harm. That does cast a bit of a pall over things, at least in the short term.

Just to give you a taste of how crazy yesterday was, the suits proclaimed that there were going to be budget cuts and some capital items were removed. They wouldn't say which ones but demanded to know what the impact to schedule would be. These guys really believe that you can take new hardware away and we can somehow air-test it.

How times have changes. Knights use to be titled for swinging swords and chopping heads. Now they get knighted for pretty packaging. Sort of sad really.

You need to visit Duxford.

They had two doing passenger hops at the Sept. Air Show in '08.
