I think if you have an image to share, put it in the Photo Sharing forum, and embed the image into the post, as opposed to a link.

As in people shots, focus on the eyes is most important. The difference however between people and dogs is that dogs often have long snouts which will require greater depth of field.
Flash is the way to be able to use a smaller f/stop and bounced flash will look natural and will not cause ghost eyes...

Good advice. On the other hand, if the artist wishes to highlight the nose and isolates it, that's OK too.

Yup, and remember that dogs use their noses much more than humans do. So this might be the way a dog would prefer to be photographed.
