Many times specifications are written for the devices available at the time - e.g., if only 4GB RAM is available and there are two slots, the max specification may be G8B, but later, when 8GB RAM is released, the manufacturer may not support 16GB only because it wasn't part of the original specification and has never been tested. But that doesn't mean it won't work. It also doesn't mean it will, because as stated earlier, it's the memory controller that determines these things.
