I would clearly prefer the left one as it is much more natural and fits to the mood better IMO.

I prefer number 1. The processing in 2 shifts the color balance so the sky isn't even blue anymore.
I'm not totally against that trendy low contrast look (black points pushed), but I just don't think that this particular photo is a good use of it.

Agreed...and I had never even really consciously thought about it until now, but I do like that look in certain circumstances. I think, though, I tend to favor it (for outdoors shots) overcast skies, greenery in background, those types of setting. I think your bright sunlight, water in the background and bluebird skies here are asking for a straight up color treatment that shows what a beautiful day it was.

I am not sure why you would even consider the one on the right. It looks washed out, but I might consider reducing the contrast on the left one a tad bit.

I actually wasn't referencing your comment. It was a general comment on the OP's post. Sorry about the confusion, you posted just before mine and I did not see your post or I would have clarified it. But you're right 'different strokes'.... |

Really, the both look good, but the one on the right is following that low-contrast look that's trendy right now. Trendy is not timeless, so in 20 years they might look at the one on the right and think it looks cheesy.
