Union Square (Not real happy with the PP. I need a more film-like technique.)

I don't really know what you mean by true 1.4 but yes its widest aperture is f/1.4. it does not go in thirds from there, it is a single stop to f/2, then half stops till f/16, then a full stop to f/22.... but yeah it opens all the way to 1.4

I think he meant does it underexpose/vignette badly at 1.4 meaning you have to dial in +EV, negating the point of calling it a 1.4 lens. I know this to be the case on some of the old soviet lenses i have that are supposed to be f2 but really more like 2.8!

Sure.
But it bet you know that all the other 35 1.4 do the same if not worse
t stop is another story, i bet it's somewhere between 1.5 and 1.6.

@M_Six,

If you have photoshop or Lightroom, I would suggest looking into the Alien Exposure plug in. That program will mimic a film look for you.

I guess different strokes for different folks. I loved using my Samyang when my 40D was my only camera (with a focusing screen). When I bought my 5D2, it felt like I could live without a focusing screen since I've got a lot of experience using one in my 40D.

My keeper rate was high, but when I finally decided to get a screen for my 5D2, I was reminded of how much more helpful having a focusing screen is (for me).
