You have no idea of the what he took ,only the selected images he displayed on here. Sadly, your attitude and reluctance to listen will mean only one thing, folk will ignore your posts and pics, and you will miss out on a huge amount of help, freindship ,and knowledge. Good luck on your travels through cyberspace. |

The reason I put every single photo up is so they were safe. I only put it here because I wanted to share them with you. You don't have to look at every single photo. And by the sounds of it, no one has. I don't know why people are constantly at me saying "this won't work for selling or getting a media pass," who the hell said I wanted to sell this? I do photography for fun. I do photography to remember great moments. I do photography for myself. I only shared it here because I said I would. I wanted a lot of photos so I could capture every moment. It wasn't every ****ing second like everyone is exaddurating. There was about 12/13 events, each lasting a minimum of about 30 minutes. There was oppurtunity to capture some crashes, some racing, behind the scenes, in the garages. Yes, alright, I did go a bit ott, but this is my very first time at a proper racing event with a proper DSLR. When I go to Silverstone F1 this year, I probably won't do as many, but there will be enough to remember what happened. I see people capture crashes, AFTER the crash happened. I want to capture the crash, WHEN it happens. No one knows a crash will happen and thats why my eye is always over the viewfinder and my finger is always above the trigger.

I'm glad you wasn't down my throat just then. I do like what he's done and I can see what he's done. I did quite a lot of panning shots. Not all of them came out perfectly, but quite a few did. I will take tips and try to change things for F1.

I've looked at every shot....every single shot. I could of just laughed and ignored it, but I like to help.
I've read your posts saying "I just shoot for fun" and "I did it to capture the memory of being there"...and that's fine. Its your camera, you do as you please with it. In my opinion, you may have taken too many shots of mundane things, for example, why have four photos of the ticket booth? Also, I dont undestand why you have 3 or four partial shots of a car, are you planning on stitching them together to make one photo? Since you are so anti-photoshop, i guess not. There are four or five shots of the front of a car, but not one of them has the whole car in it. Why take partial shots? is your zoom broken? I personally dont uderstand your logic, but that's your choice on how you shoot. Since you are so defensive of your shots, and have an explanation for them all, I took the liberty of posting a random selection of them, and would like your opinion on what you are trying to say in the shot. Maybe then we can give you more specific advice. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not sure why I have found my way to this thread, as I don't post in the motorsports section.
anwyay. I haven't looked at your photos yet, so I will not have any comments directly to them. I plan to, as I am curious to see them, I just can't as I am at work and my work blocks a lot of online storage sites (such as skydrive). First off, as already stated, most here are just trying to help, in multiple ways. Not only help you to become a better photographer, but to help people who may look through your pictures in the future, including yourself. You even said that it took 4 days to upload all of the pictures.. that was more than likely un-necessary. I get that you wanted to make sure you captured "the moment" (which ever that may be). I 150% understand. I do the same thing with baseball. I walk away from a 1 hour 30 minute little league game with 500 to 600 shots just to make sure I don't "miss anything" (but I still do). However, once I get home and put them on the computer, I don't save all of them. Why save multiple shots of the SAME moment? Why save shots where you were trying to capture a moment that never happened? Sure you may have captured car #5 head on cornering in turn 4 30 times because he MIGHT have crashed there. But he didn't. So you now have 30 copies of the same non event. Pick the best (or top few) if you like the non-crash picture and delete the rest. There is ZERO reason to save a blurry photo. Delete them. On the whole photoshop thing. Do some people take photo editing/developing too far? Absolutely. But "developing" the photo afterwards a part of photography, even digital photography. Cropping and aligning, isn't going to make a photo "unrealistic looking" (well, unless you align stuff weirdly, like upside down or something). I view a reluctance to process a photo like a master woodworker who doesn't use stain or paint to complete his works, or something like that. Sure, you can get away without doing so, but you are eliminating a very key step that enhances your craft. Just my 2 cents. Probably not worth much.

It doesn't matter if your goal is to sell photos or to "document" what you saw that day. Taking your camera out and experiment with the cars driving around you where you live, you can quickly find a number of nice tricks to make a powerful car feel more powerful (think about difference of photographing down onto hood or crouching down and shooting for example). A fast car feel faster (think about panning the photo, getting a blurry background and blurred, spinning, wheels). No need to be defensive. See this thread as a school class, with people who can help you to get better photos. Ask questions. Go out and experiment, instead of trying to defend your current photos. After all, life is a lot of years we can use to learn and improve. And everyone (!) can learn new tricks and improve.

Way more reason to be pissed for photographing a favorite car but not managing to feel the power of the car when you look at the photo. Look in a car magazine. What do you feel when you look at the photos. Are the photos there to "document" the car in a clinical way. Or are the photos trying to tell a story. Trying to influence how you are supposed to think/feel about the cars? If you want to document what you see, a video camera is great. With a DSLR, the normal goal is to produce some impact. Not by bulk but with "wow".

You are correct in suggesting i wasn't there though. If i was, i could have done better than you with a blackboard and some different coloured chalks without any silly pit / paddock passes.

A music photographer told me that he doesn't go on a photography "diarrhoea" i.e. shoot crazy amounts of photos without thinking about the composition. I have looked at his back catalogue, and it is a more careful thought out process than what I use to do last year. Now, I only take, if I can help, 30-50 photos of a three song set. I use to take thousands without proper thought. OK, one or two may of come out as good compositons but now I can manage much better quality compositions. Doesn't mean that just because "your not professional" that you shouldn't "think". I can't see this thread as a "dig" at you, rather the photographers on here have experience of what excites them, are trying to help you. Photography is not about rattling off hundreds of photo per hour or days. Photography is about a much better thought out process. Professionalism is not just about earning money, its about your attitude towards your chosen subject, which in this case is PHOTOGRAPHY

It's almost like a hipster Instagram feel to me. An ironic picture of some 1988 masonry to hide a car I might be interested in seeing.
