Default Limited to one strobe - Looking to use other lights

Hey everyone,

I didn't see a thread for this and I apologize if there is one.

I have one AB800, PLM Umbrella Soft Silver /w White Diffusion. It works really well as an even key but I am looking into other cheap lights like practicals, halogen, fluorescents, etc to use as Rim and back lights to go with the strobe. I have some expendables such as diffusion and gels so I am not worried about the color temp as I can change it to match or if I want, leave it the same.

So my question to you guys is, What non-photography specific lights have you used to go with a strobe? Have they worked well for you? Do you have some examples?? What do you guys recommend??

I appreciate all the help in advance!

Thanks,

James

Buy a reflector. The disparity in power, and color mismatch make all the options you listed poor options. Perhaps a 500 watt halogen worklight would be bright enough, but they are damn hot and you cant really use any sort of modifier with them. Its just a bad idea all around.

A was thinking about a reflector as well. I would want a reflector that I can position and not have to have someone hold. I know there are clamps for reflectors and stands, etc. Do you have any reflectors that you recommend that will be easy to set up and just leave for not a lot of money? 25-40$ preferably.

http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-110CM-C...9099211&sr=8-1 This one is one of the two that I have. Well built and gives you options for the $$ Do a search on amazon for arms with clamps to hold it in conjunction with a stand.

This route will require the buying of another light stand and an arm/grip head along with the reflector. A total cost of roughly 50-70 dollars. It's quite unfortunate. Any other suggestions?

Yeah start saving or bring an assistant. The reflector is dead cheap, and if you cant figure any DIY way of deploying it I dont know what to tell you. This is one of those times where things cost what they cost and $50 is pretty reasonable.
