The reflection in the glasses (which you may want to try to avoid) looks like an umbrella set on camera-left. I don't see a shadow from the brim on the hat, so the umbrella is most likely not set that high.

My relatively untrained eye doesn't see any fill from the right, so, I'm thinking a simple one-light setup.

Also, I'm relatively new here, but, I thought you were supposed to link, and not attach, other photogs' photos. You did give ample credit, so, it's possible I'm off-base with that.

To me, and this is just me as I am new at lighting for portraits but the lighting is a bit too harsh and over-exposed. Maybe a fill card or bookend on the other side to even it out some for a more proper exposure? Also, the background is very distracting to me. It looks like a simple curtain and window, but if the image had been properly exposed I think that would not be so distracting other than the big black swath to the side.

It looks like he is using a 43 inch white umbrella or Brolly box. Nice use of one light, I do have to admit that I kind of like the over exposed look. It's not too over exposed, but just enough to pass.

If you want to achieve photo's like this, look into getting a Yongnuo 460ii and a Yongnuo rf-602 triggers receiver set, a light stand and a 43 inch white umbrella or Brolly Box. If you shop on amazon, look into cowboy studio's for the light stand and brolly box.

My best guess is that "kinpachi" and adnan are one and the same person as I find it difficult to imagine anyone would want to emulate the above image. But who knows, so I have a really nice bridge for sale real cheap too. Maybe you have heard of it, the Golden Gate bridge? A paltry $500.00 and it is yours, cash only and no receipt-sorry.

If only you'd have hit me up a day earlier...

I've paid for, and am awaiting delivery of the Triborough bridge. Same terms, no receipt and all, but the guy was real cool, and had a trustworthy email address.

If that falls through, I'll keep you in mind. I'm looking to set up a bridge in my back yard so I can fish off it!

Slow down mate, that was a year ago and it was a normal shoot for a friend. I didn't even look at what's behind him until the picture showed on the camera's screen
I'm not going too official in photography, just a hobby y'know
