We have recently had a family friend stay with us and she helped my start getting to grips with portraits by at least standing in front of the camera for me.
However on comment she did make whilst reviewing the images was that she thought her ears looked "Sticky Out". Well they looked fine to me but are there any rules/guide for ears in portraits ? after all we all have them. Thanks in advance. |

Don't shoot the head straight on is about all you can do.
Of course, if someone has ears that stick out...they will still stick out in photos. Offer some superglue is about the only other thing you can do. People often insist that their flaws are not really there so why are they there in photos or that you're supposed to magically make a 200lb person look like a 100lb person.

Thanks.
She did have her hair in a pony tail with the ears showing through the hair so I suppose that made it look worse to her. I was pretty pleased, so was she, just the one off comment made me think twice. Don't you just love a learning curve !!! |

You can use the hair to cover the ears, which works well with the face at a partial angle to the camera as suggested by Numerorean. Also, you can trim the ears in a bit in photoshop using the Liquify filters (same idea as removing bulges from the waist. Of course, you can always have her accentuate them by putting her hands behind them and pushing them forward

Thumb tacks do the job. But watch out for the blood, it can mess up your lens...
