has this thread turned into a drinking game yet?

I think of it this way, the amateurs who suck it up and realize that it isn't a $3K camera that will make them better, its knowledge, practice and subsequent skill will end up succeeding.

Those who rely on expensive gear or "hey I bought a DSLR at Sams Club, I wanna shoot your wedding!" to "make them pro" will quickly fade out.
They will bomb and get frustrated because they don't want to take the time to learn their craft.

Leaving only those who are dedicated enough to educate themselves and care enough to put out quality, consistent work.

I would have stated as such. The 3k camera is still part of the equation but not the only part. Look at all the pros out there. They have multiple bodies, expensive glass, expensive flash, and talent, dedication, knowledge etc. Give a good pro a cheap camera and kit lens and they will make something happen and will probably do way better than someone without talent and expensive gear. But it will not be their best work.

I am an amateur photographer. You have nothing to worry about here.

Clearly I need to copy and paste a few pages of a watch maker's guide in here, then help myself to a few things while some of you are passed out.

Amateur Photographers are destroying photography like over seas programmers destroy software development. Either they get better, or the people who are serious about what they're buying stay with those who actually know what they're doing and have a proven track record.

One of those is virtual and misrepresenting itself.
