Thanks for posting these. I'm thinking of buying the Tokina 11-16, and your shots are pushing me further in that direction. Is it as sharp as they say even out to the corners when stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6?

My experience is limited with this (lens is a week old) and it's my first wide angle so I have nothing to compare it to, however sharpness seems pretty good so far. I always liked wide angle and have been eager to get my hands on one. The reviews were good for the Tokina, and the 2.8 Ap is a nice bonus. Price is right compared to the Canon equiv. I'm not disappointed and I'm having fun. Let me know if you pull the trigger Hugh!

These shots are cool - I love the look of UWA portraits!

Hugh - I have had this lens for close to a year - Typically I use it for night work, and it is great for that - I have used it during the day. Wide open there is a little softness in the corners, I have to really look for it. At 4-5.6 it is great corner to corner... There is a MKII coming out that is this same lens with newer coatings that is supposed to reduce the amount of flare that this lens gets. And it does - that is about the only detraction on it... Love mine though, wont give it up unless I go FF on both of my bodies...

ddemusis & apixelintime,
Thanks for the feedback on the lens & its sharpness. We have a 2-day photo expo here in Toronto next week, and Tokina will be there. I'll try the lens out then and probably buy it, especially if they have a show discount. Also, I know that there is a MKII coming out with new coatings & an updated focusing motor. However, I assume that will be $100-$200 more expensive. Also, the new Tokina 12-24 is out with what is presumably the same new coatings, and I have read a review saying that it didn't make much difference in chromatic aberration & there is still some flare. So I will probably go with the current model if I like it when I try it out.

I really like my Tokina 11-16. I almost have the attitude that you can throw me about anywhere with that lens and I'll find a cool shot with it.

Hugh - I have heard the same about the coatings - it is a UWA for heavens sakes! And about the updated focusing motor (which I havent heard about) I dont know how much that will add to it - it is already really fast and to be perfectly honest, I have not had an issue with it. I think you are wise to consider the MKI and pocket the difference.

This morning I bought my Tokina 11-16mm at Vistech in Toronto. I had to wait for two weeks because there was not a single Canon mount copy of the lens available in the entire city until the end of last week. Although I've only had it for a few hours, it is clear that the focus motor is fast, accurate, and fairly quite. No worries there. I'll post a few photos here in the next day or two on sharpness, etc. One thing I love is that I can get two right-angle hallways into the same image.
