Hi all, The wife and I both have 60D, we are new to DSLR`s so still finding our way with the equipment, she has an interest in Macro so we got a Tamron SP 60mm F/2 Macro lens which she is getting use to but wants to be able to magnify the subject (bugs) even more than the 1-1 that the lens offers, I wondered whether the KOOD close-up macro filters would make much difference to what she is trying to achieve, or would ext; tubes be better.
If anyone could advise me it might save me wateing my money. We also have the Canon 18-55 IS kit lens and Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 VC USD |

I have a set of Leica add-on filters for my G12 and they are awesome but they aren't available in 72mm. I just checked and your 18-55 is 58mm so the Leica Elpro lenses would work... I'd recommend a Elpro 3. They are often available on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEICA-ELPRO-...item53ed73a44f
For your Tamron, you could probably use the 72mm Canon add-on lens.... these are also available on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-500D-7...item3377807270 You would need a step ring from 62mm to 72mm. Others might have other suggestions as I've really only used add-on macro filters with my G12. Lots of POTN-rs have used extension tubes with great success. The most common brand seems to be Kenko.

Hi and thank you for your reply, I will look at the options you have given me, I am looking for something to improve her Tamron 60mm f/2 macro which has a 55mm thread and wether i`m better off getting macro filter lenses or going down the road of extension tubes all of which I know very little about.

I'd ask the question in POTN's macro photo sharing thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...splay.php?f=38
There are some very helpful people there with an amazing amount of experience. I realize you did post it in the macro section, but in the "sharing know how/macro talk".... I just see the most experienced posting in the photo sharing area, so you might catch some of them there. Plus I'd recommend you take a look at the many "stickies" in the macro talk section in which this is posted. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...splay.php?f=38 is a great place to start but there are several of them. Another one, esp. post #28: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...+close+up+lens
