I opted to snag a 2nd MkIV...

Best camera I've ever used.

I'm seeing many more people saying that these days.

Hardly surprising, the 1dx will be a better camera but will have a little less 'reach' and cost a fair bit more than a 1d4.

1dx is priced like a 1ds not a 1d.

I went to the Sports Shooter Academy workshop a month or so ago and I got to use the D800. The high MP count is great but I don't like the feel of the body. I guess I'm use to canon bodies lol

i tried a friends D800 a couple of week ago, I didn't like it either but it is something I could get used to in a short time. I liked it much better than her D3s, that thing is a monster in my small hands. And I agree with Jay - the images I've seen from it are amazing.

It's priced pretty much right between the original release prices of both...

$4999 vs $6799 on B&H right now., if the 1DIV is good enough for you now , as a pro, why would you buy a 1Dx for more? Even ignoring which is actually on shelves...

Well, for one, the MkIV is going away...

So if you don't want to buy used (which I did), you get a new 1DX or you bail to Nikon for a D4...

where is it going? is it going to be taken back by Canon? I still see 5D MKI used and making fantastic music.

yeah that may be true but many copies are out in the wild and they are still a fantastic tool and the offer the right choice to the right user. I would love one despite the crop from full frame it really would not limit me much I suppose since it is very capable on almost every area except for maybe extreme wide angle?

If you go back and read #7, you'll see that I said I snagged a 2nd MkIV. And yes, it's used...

Well I can say that my D3s at work is horrible on off center points, center is decent but my 70-200mm F2.8 VR II is not as responsive feeling as even my 50D and 70-200mm F4L IS.

Nikon bodies to me(I shoot all of them, D300-D3x) never really feel like they are ready to shoot like my Canon does. The focus on my canon bodies just feels and looks faster and more "thou shall not pass, in focus". It just go and instantly stops, while the Nikon bodies are as fast but lack that authority in the AF. I think it is because of the focusing screens as Nikon tends to use a softer matte then Canon by default so it is harder to tell exact focus.

Everyone with a 5d3 is praising the AF system even over a 1DIV, the 1Dx will be better for tracking due to linking with the colour metering cpu.

All the wire service people I work with all talk trash about their Canon gear these day. God's honest truth. I never understand it.

But all complain about their 1Ds.
