Default flash bracket for telephoto?

OK, so I just ordered my better beamer, and, despite searching around here, can't find anything to confirm a couple of things I need to figure out before I use it.

I've pretty much decided to try a flash bracket, as I've read enough about red/steel eye to dissuade me from mounting it on the hotshoe.

I have a RRS replacement foot for my telephoto, which I'm pretty sure is the double dovetail needed to use a flash bracket to elevate the flash and beamer. Can someone confirm this for me, though?

Also, anyone have a flash bracket they use and like? I was considering the Jobu HERE, as I have a Jobu gimbal and have been happy with the quality of that product.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Not sure what Head your Using ... I use the wimberly2 Gimbel and use the Wimberly Flash bracket attachment with extension to get the flash higher... I also attach my Battery pack for the flash and a small lens case where I store my 1.4x extender when not in use.

Attached is a picture of myself in the water, where you can somewhat see what Im talking about...

I use a Jobu BW gimbal, and I've replaced the Canon foot with an RRS foot. What I'm trying to figure out is if I need anything extra for the flash bracket or if what I have will work, and then, obviously, what brackets people have and like.

I use the Jobu BW Jr. 2 for my 300/2.8 + TCs and 400/5.6L, and use the sidemount flash bracket, which I find it a bit short if I'm shooting at 600mm, hence steel/red eye. The flash bracket in your link should be okay. The advantage is that it is in one piece and nothing snaps off or fiddle around with. The disadvantage is that it might be too short or too tall depending on your lens, and you can't adjust the height. The flash bracket from Custom Brackets looks pretty good and customizable, not sure if it will mount on your Jobu BW's gimbal arm, which has a bit of a dovetail mounting.

A couple things to keep in mind --> Using a flash bracket that mounts to your lens foot may limit your ability to balance your rig on the gimbal (without further modification anyway). The bracket and flash is going to alter the balance point of your camera and lens as soon as you mount it (and unlike mounting an extension tube or teleconverter, the weight (i.e. the flash) is away from the central axis of the camera and will create a "tipping point" in the gimbal's range of motion where the camera will want to fall forward or backward rather than back to neutral). By mounting the bracket onto the lens foot you limit your range of fore and aft adjustment in the clamp. This can often be solved by mounting a longer plate on the lens foot. This may not be an issue for you, but is something to keep in mind. Brackets that mount directly to the gimbal head tend to already be set-up right over the axis of the pivot and won't have near the effect on the balance (nor will you lose that fore-and-aft adjustment range). The advantage I see to having a bracket that mounts to the lens foot is that it also allows you to easily shoot with your flash set-up off a beanbag, skimmer, your buddy's tripod head of a different brand, etc. without much monkeying around...

At the risk of taking this thread off topic (sorry in advance!), I am interested to learn what flash battery packs folks are using these days. Thanks.

Note - The image of CanaHolic's set-up prompted this.
